Who's This Freakin' Guy?
I am the Ronen, and no my name is not mispelled. No, I am not named after a samurai without a master, do I look Japanese to
you? Yes, I do know there is a Robert DeNiro movie with a similar name to my own that has awesome car chase scenes in it,
based around the ridiculous plot of finding a piece of bad luggage, in the mean streets of Paris or wherever in Europia the
film takes place. It was only a short six months ago that I decided to join the righteously infamous Warmonger Club,
formerly playing up in Providence, Rhode Island, and now here I am posting a web diary for the Cults of Chaos, my mother
would be so proud (well actually she wouldn't be but my maternal issues are another story). I'll start by informing the
world on some of my past warhammer fantasy exploits. I am a longtime Dwarf player. I love 'em. I love their deceptively
slow movement of 3, their ridiculously high leadership of 9. I love blowing stuff up with cannons and kicking butt and
taking names in close combat. I decided to do a very different army as my next fantasy venture, I wanted it to be fast,
cast spells, but still be beat up opponents in close combat. I also wanted it to be heavily converted, so that meant a
great deal of pondering as to which army to do. Oh yeah, Chaos, problem solved.
The List
I originally came up with an idea of an over the top speed and magic army,
namely the opposite of my Dwarfs. It had fifteen power dice, four chariots, Chosen Chaos knights, all the works. I hated
it! It was simply too much of a good thing and wasn't so much fun to play. You should see the look on an opponent's face
when you move to the magic phase and say you have fifteen power dice. Oh it's only a level four mage, four level two
mages, and three chariots with the Mark of Tzeentch. Anyhow all that is different now, and I will explain my
quasi-underpowered "Agents of Alteration" Cult.
Here is what I came up with:
Lord & Heroes
Exalted Daemon Mark of Tzeentch and nothing else ![]() Exalted Champion Shield, great weapon, Chaos armor, Gaze of the Gods, Mark of Tzeentch He serves as the army's general. Exalted Champion Great weapon, Chaos armor, Dispel scroll (like the American Express card, never leave home without it, but also similar to Visa in that it is works almost everywhere). ![]() Yeah that's right no Lord level characters. Yes the Exalted Daemon flying around causing Terror checks is similar to other army's lord level characters but he certainly isn't a Daemon Prince or a Chaos lord.
Core Units
2 units of 19 Marauders Flails, light armor, shield, full command. ![]() 2 units of 5 Chaos Hounds ![]() 2 units of 5 Marauder Horsemen ![]() 2 chariots with the Mark of Chaos Undivided ![]() I have to say that the large Marauder infantry units are solid. They aren't huge, and I would like them to be larger but at 19 along with an Exalted Champion in each of them they can take on just about any unit of infantry without a problem. Some people love hounds, some think they are worthless, I love the simple process of deploying a 30 point unit first and then making my opponent deploy his next unit. It forces their hand in deployment basically letting me "out-deploy" them to a degree. If they actually do something in a game besides die, that's fantastic.
Special Units
5 Screamers of Tzeentch Beast Herd Musician, 5 Gors and 5 Ungors 3 Minotaurs with Mark of Chaos Undivided Again here nothing over the top. I originally chose the Screamers simply to help out my Exalted Daemon so he wouldn't get shot to pieces in the first turn (this was even more important in an older version of the army list when he was a Daemon Prince with the Mark of Tzeentch, Master of Mortals and toted around a Blade of Ether, thus giving away about 600 victory points when he died). The Beast Herd is there for principally three reasons, to force my opponent to deploy something (same as the hounds), have something that can go in and chase mages out of woods, and for no other reason than to add 10 more models to the army, bulking it out a bit. I don't count on them winning any fight at that size. The minotaurs on the other hand I do expect to see them do well. These are the last and hopefully final addition to the army. Having seen Ryan's minotaurs in action and seeing firsthand the devastation that 9 WS4 S6 attacks on the charge by a fear causing unit can do, I figured I would join in the festivities.
Rare Units
2 Chaos Spawn![]() ![]() Hi Mr. Spawn how are you today? Do you feel like being productive and kicking butt in a game today or being terrible and a waste of points that I want to throw across the room? That about sums up Chaos Spawn, they either charge across the field doing lots of attacks and kicking butt and taking names, or they move foward three inches and do a whopping two attacks before dying miserably. Some people said I should have converted made a second weirder looking spawn, compared to the disk thing, the hydra one looks pretty normal, but I like him, so he stays. |
Back To Cult
I am the last person to join the cults, I also joined with my army
approximately 60% done which leads to a bunch of problems. Firstly was my section of the city. I wanted a temple, but Matt
took it. Park? Taken. Slaughterhouse? Taken. Arena? Taken. Carnival? Taken. Old wizard tower with astromancy looking
telescope thingy? All yours. Next, what do about my old wizard tower with astromancy looking telescope thingy. What type of
terrain would it have? What would the building look like? What is an astromancy looking telescope thingy and what does an
look like? All good questions I will endeavor to get to, when I come up with the answers myself.
The second problem is the basing, which is my current project. Joining later into my army's progress meant that while it was good that a large chunk of the army is painted already, I have rebase a large number of models. I am in the process of moving all my models over from a grassy flock base to a cobblestone base. This means that each stone has to be painted and highlighted. Time consuming? Absolutely. Look cool? Hells yeah!
Well, I'm done talking your ear off now and I will allow you to return to your regularly scheduled web surfing, but I remind you to tune back in a couple of weeks for an update. I'll let you know how the rest of the cobblestone work went. How the last units get painted up. And last but not least how the construction, production, and painting of my first building goes. Good luck, live long and prosper, paint well, may the force be with you, and always offer a virgin sacrifice to the dice gods before a tournament.
