The Battle of Beards
Fantasy Mega Battle Championships, Game 1

Turn 4:
Gary: The Iron Breakers, taking the brunt of a massive attack by no less than 4 Chaos Dwarf
characters and 40 Black Orcs lost the melee and were run down. However, the pursuit of this
very expensive mass of Chaos Dwarves and Orks allowed us to counter attack with a unit of Long
Beards with a flank charge. Matt's instincts told him to run, but Nidal said "Hey, we are Chaos
Dwarves, we don't care, lets fight". Matt responded, "That's a mistake, but lets see". The
pressure was on but the dice were with me, the Long Beards true to form cut down 5 Orks and
when the dust had settled, the huge 1,700 point mass of Orks, Chaos Dwarf characters and Chaos
Dwarves needed a four to stay. Herb and I thought we had it wrapped up. Matt started yelling at
Nidal, "I told you we should have run". Dissent was appearing in the enemy ranks. Matt rolled
an 8 and panic showed on his face. He had one roll left with the standard bearer. If he couldn't
roll a 4 or less, the whole Chaos Dwarf center was running. Matt held his breath and threw the
dice, a 3!!!!! Ahhhh!!!!!! Curses on Matt, he did it again. They stayed and our last chance to
win evaporated. I asked Matt for the hell of it to roll his dice to run (theoretically). He
rolled a 5 and I then rolled an 8. Ahhhh!!!!!!! The pain.

Herb: The Iron Breakers gave it a go, but were run down. This did set up a flank charge
by the Longbeards. As Gary detailed above, it was a close run thing. This is part of the reason
why I love this game so much. Even with lousy luck and some bad choices on my part, we were
still in this game. If that big unit of orks had broken, there was a good chance an abundance
of other units would've fled also. After all, the general would've been running... On my side
of the board, still getting ready to charge. Damn crew of a flame cannon fails the terror
check, but we line up a great shot with a cannon on a Great Taurus. No misfires... gets the
rider... wounds the rider... and it does only one wound. Oh well, maybe next time.

Matt: Charge! The Black Orks and Sneaky Gitz came in to rescue the embattled Lord on
Taurus, and this battle would turn the game one way or another. With a massive amount of VPs to
be won or lost- 1700 pts of Chaos and 1000 points of Dwarves- this would make or break us. The
4 Chaos heroes did massive damage, and our side won by 10 all told. Unfortunately, our pursuit
move left the Black Ork unit- with General, BSB, and Hobbo hero- set up for a flank charge by
the Longbeards! Losing that unit would bring us back even again, and we didn't need that! On
the right flank, the blunderbusses started in again on the 4 Dwarf units - the Dwarves were sure
to charge in soon, as there was no point standing around. Oglah Khan and the 2nd Bull Taurus
moved into position for a massive charge I had planned on the stubborn Hammerers with General.
The Marksmen got in a flank charge on the Miners (who had run them off originally!), but failed
to break them.

Nidal: In the center, the bull centaur unit maneuvered to prepare the charge on the
miners. The bull centaur lord and his retinue squabbled over who would get to keep the handguns
they had just "liberated" from the enemy. On the left, the bull centaurs rallied, and weathered a
round of fire from the handgunners, who wounded 5 times. 6's were needed to save. The dice came
up 3,6,6,6,6. A cry of genuine pain came from my opponents as they realized that I had not just
sold my firstborn to the dice gods, but my second born, and my third born, as well! The
hobgoblin unit again danced in front of the Dwarves, teasing them and taunting them... but the
Dwarves would not take the bait, and the side remained at a stalemate.
